Botox is ideal for treating those pesky frown lines that can be found on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and even dreaded Crow’s Feet. For those seeking to abolish dynamic wrinkles which are caused by everyday facial muscle movements, Botox NYC is a popular treatment option. Botox works by freezing underlying muscles through the use of an FDA approved botulinum toxin type A.

After a few injections, which only take about 10 minutes on average, the patient is free to leave the doctor’s office and by week two of receiving the injections, the facial muscles will return to a fully relaxed state. Depending on the individual, results from Botox can last anywhere from 4 to 5 months. Botox has been proven to smooth and eliminate moderate to severe frown lines in patients aging from 18-65.

Hiding Under Eye Circles in Photographs

Help!  My daughter is getting married this weekend and I’m so nervous about my makeup! I have under eye circles that are hard to disguise on a regular day. What is going to happen when the professional photographer sets up his lights and gets out his fancy camera? Will my under eye circles be captured in my daughter’s photographs for all eternity?!

It is true that the camera picks up details the naked eye may miss.  We understand the stress and impending doom you feel awaits you.  However, there are lots of things you can do to make sure the mother of the bride looks as youthful, elegant, and radiant as possible without up-staging the bride!

Top Makeup Tips For The Mother of the Bride

(Editor’s Note: Follow the makeup tips below and watch the video – the images above are before and after shots of the transformation achieved in the video demonstration – note that under eye circles are disguised and eyes look bigger, brighter and younger!)

    • Blend, blend, blend!  Blending is one of the most important techniques for good makeup.  The camera will pick up any obvious lines.  Double and triple check that you don’t have any badly blended spots.
    • Check your overall appearance.  Under eye circles will be especially obvious if there are other problems happening with your makeup.  Is one cheek fuller than the other?  Are your eyebrows in desperate need of plucking?  Make sure the overall look is pleasing and any under eye darkness that does peak through won’t be as offensive.
    • Remember that colors on opposite sides of the color wheel are complimentary.  If your under eye circles have a purplish tint, use a yellow based concealer.

Natural Treatments For Under Eye Circles

Our Pick Of All-Natural, Never-Before-Heard Treatment Tips!

Dark circles. Eye circles. Bags under the eyes. Dark blemishes. I recently heard them referred to as “unsightly blemishes that soil the appearance of the face”. Harsh! For the sake of argument, let’s call them under eye circles.

    getting enough sleep

Not getting enough sleep may be just one cause of dark circles under your eyes

If you thought they were hard to name, they are even harder to diagnose. The cause of under eye circles has been linked to lack of sleep, improper diet and nutrition, stress, hormonal problems, advancing age, hyper-pigmentation of the skin, dehydration, smoking and alcohol consumption, and exposure to heat and sunlight. That is a long list of potentially troublesome conditions. Therefore, preventing under eye circles might be near impossible.

If prevention is difficult, that only leaves treatment. And, let me tell you, there are TONS of treatment suggestions out there. Today, we’re going to assume you have heard about (and tried) all the most common home-remedies. We won’t wax poetic about cucumbers, potatoes, and tea bags we are going to tell you about some home treatment options you may never have heard of before!

Let’s take a look at some different treatment options.

chlorophyll in parsley is what gives it the intense green color

Parsley contains lots of chlorophyll, which can help lessen dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. Finely chop several parsley leaves. Fill the squares in an ice cube tray about halfway with the chopped parsley. Top with water and freeze. Remove two ice cubes, wrap them in small towels and place one over each eye.

    Witch hazel
is a natural astringent. The high concentration of tannins helps tighten skin and reduce swelling. Soak two cotton balls in witch hazel extract (available at most natural health stores and pharmacies). Lie down, close your eyes, and place the soaked cotton balls under your eyes for 15 minutes.

A face mask might help lessen the appearance of under eye circles too. Try one of these three masques with all natural ingredients. Continue reading

Under Eye Bags and Circles: Causes and Treatment Strategies

An increasing number of women have been resorting to cosmetic surgery to fix flaws and signs of aging. Blepharoplasty or cosmetic eyelid surgery was the third most popular type of cosmetic surgery performed by American plastic surgeons in 2011.

The procedure removes excess or loose skin on the upper eyelids, and lifts the sagging tissues under your eyes to get rid of dark circles and eye puffiness.

But should you really consider blepharoplasty to regain your happy and youthful appearance?

    What Causes Under Eye Bags?

    eye bags and dark circles
Some people are more predisposed to having eye bags, which is also an effect of aging. Surgery is an expensive quick fix to a problem that can be addressed without breaking the bank. Blepharoplasty does not resolve the underlying reasons that cause eye bags, including allergies, fatigue, fluid retention, lack of sleep, oxidative stress, smoking, sinus infections, thyroid dysfunction, and too much exercise.

As you grow older, the muscles and tissues around your eyelids start to weaken and the skin around your eyes becomes thinner. Gravity begins taking its toll, which may make the skin around your eyes saggy. The fat found around your eyes start moving downward. Seasonal allergies like hay fever can cause a build-up of fluid under your eyes. Taking anti-allergy medications can help treat the allergy and reduce the fluid. Medication will also reduce eye puffiness caused by sinus infections.

What You Eat May Also Contribute to Eye Puffiness

    healthy balanced diet

Improving your diet and reducing processed, refined foods can pay dividends for your health – and your appearance!

A poor diet is an often overlooked cause of skin problems. Consuming a lot of processed foods, which contain high levels of sugar, increases your risk of oxidative stress, a major factor that contributes to premature aging. Oxidative stress is the result of an accumulation of cell-damaging free radicals. The damage caused by free radicals can be seen on your face in the form of droopy eyelids, loss of elasticity, under eye bags, and wrinkles. Avoiding fast food and other types of processed food while increasing your consumption of whole, nutritious food will do your skin a lot of good. If you are not used to eating a lot of vegetables, juicing them is a simple and delicious way of increasing your nutrient levels. Vegetables are rich in antioxidants, which help reduce oxidative stress by fighting free radicals.

    How to Minimize Eye Puffiness

Aside from modifying your eating habits, there are more steps that you can take to improve the appearance of the skin around your eyes. Using a high-quality eye cream for dark circles can help decrease bags and puffiness around your eyes and give you a younger-looking appearance. But you should not rely solely on eye creams and other cosmetic products. Like nutritional supplements, eye creams support a skin-friendly lifestyle, not the other way around. Here are other simple tips that you can try to keep the skin around your eyes looking fresh and young:

You can perform facial exercises to improve the appearance of sagging eyelids and reduce eye bags. One such exercise is called the lower lid elevator. Put your index finger under your lower lid. Use only the muscles under your eye to lift the weight of your index finger. Do the “lifting” without wrinkling your brow. Hold for about a second and perform 20 repetitions. Do the exercise twice a day.

Use potatoes and green tea bags instead of cucumbers.
You’ve probably tried the cucumber-over-the-eyes therapy but it appears that using half-moon slices of potatoes under your eyes is also beneficial. Potatoes can help reduce eye puffiness and dark circles because they naturally contain catecholase, a skin lightening ingredient used in some cosmetic products. Green tea, on the other hand, contains antioxidants that may help reduce inflammation and increase skin elasticity. Continue reading
